چکیده

A new method is presented for the recognition and the localization of three-dimensional objects using color information. In the first processing step a chromatic block matching method is applied to find corresponding pixels in a color stereo image. Second, the computed disparity maps are segmented to distinguish between the image background and the objects that should be recognized. Assuming that the segmented regions represent single objects in the three-dimensional scene, feature vectors are generated based on color histograms. The scalar product is used as well as the Euclidean distance to measure the similarity between the feature vectors computed from the color image and the feature vectors stored in a data base.

Color diagnosticity in object recognition

How does color influence object recognition? In this study a set of objects with three different color settings; appropriately colored, inappropriately colored or black and white, are used in an experiment to investigate the importance of color in object recognition. Objects are categorized as either man-made (e.g. furniture) or natural (e.g. fruit) and as high color diagnostic (HCD) or as low ...

Visual Data Combination for Object Detection and Localization for Autonomous Robot Manipulation Tasks

For mobile robot manipulation, autonomous object detection and localization is at the present still an open issue. In this paper is presented a method for detection and localization of simple colored geometric objects like cubes, prisms and cylinders, located over a table. The method proposed uses a passive stereovision system and consists on two steps. The first is colored object detection, wh...

Object Recognition based on Local Steering Kernel and SVM

The proposed method is to recognize objects based on application of Local Steering Kernels (LSK) as Descriptors to the image patches. In order to represent the local properties of the images, patch is to be extracted where the variations occur in an image. To find the interest point, Wavelet based Salient Point detector is used. Local Steering Kernel is then applied to the resultant pixels, in ...

Online Learning for Bootstrapping of Object Recognition and Localization in a Biologically Motivated Architecture

We present a modular architecture for recognition and localization of objects in a scene that is motivated from coupling the ventral (“what”) and dorsal (“where”) pathways of human visual processing. Our main target is to demonstrate how online learning can be used to bootstrap the representation from nonspecific cues like stereo depth towards object-specific representations for recognition and...
